The new refrigerants, which will eventually replace R-22 Freon, dissipate much quicker and allow less leakage into the atmosphere, providing the EPA reason to aggressively decrease production. In 2013, production was reduced by 30%, and most agree it will be stepped down each year until all manufacturing of R-22 Freon is ceased in 2020.
